What’s Hot in Kitchens, Baths, and Even Home Offices
By Brianna Hogberg, Designer Cabinetry has always been central to home design—both visually and functionally—and in 2025, we’re seeing a continued evolution in both style and practicality across the entire home.
From kitchens and baths to laundry rooms and home offices, today’s homeowners are choosing cabinetry that’s not only beautiful, but also built to simplify daily life.
Here’s what’s trending in cabinetry throughout the home—and what to know about installation and delivery if you’re planning a project this year.
Kitchens: From All-White to Warm Wood Tones
Five years ago, the white shaker cabinet reigned supreme. But that trend is fading fast this year, as wood tones make a strong comeback – especially white oak. White oak has long been popular on the coasts, and it’s now gaining serious momentum in the Midwest (including Michigan) and across the country. Homeowners love its neutral, modern grain and ability to take on custom stains – without the pinks or yellows common in red oak.
We’re seeing more requests for cabinetry in quarter-sawn or rift-cut oak, which features a clean, linear grain pattern. It delivers the warmth and character of wood without the heavy, swoopy grain many associate with the 1980s and ’90s. It’s a perfect example of how vintage materials are being reimagined in modern ways these days throughout the entire home.
Painted cabinets are still in use, but with a shift away from pure white. Instead, clients are exploring deeper, moodier tones and earthy neutrals – many inspired by trends on social media.
More than ever, clients are asking for cabinetry that requires less upkeep and are easier to clean. They’re gravitating toward low-maintenance finishes and door styles with minimal grooves to avoid dust and grime buildup. In a world where everyone is short on time, maintenance-friendly materials are increasingly a top priority for busy homeowners.
And perhaps surprisingly, younger homeowners are often opting for more traditional styling, while older clients are embracing sleek, modern designs.
👉 Bonus Trend: One of the biggest layout trends in kitchen design is the rise of sculleries and working pantries – secondary prep areas tucked behind the main kitchen. These hidden spaces allow homeowners to keep clutter, mess, and appliances out of sight, maintaining a clean, polished look in the “show kitchen” while still supporting everyday functionality and entertaining.
Home Offices: Style Meets Functionality
The pandemic sparked a major surge in home office remodels, and that trend is showing no signs of slowing. The big difference in 2025? Homeowners—especially those who spend a lot of time on video calls—want their spaces to reflect personality and style, especially if they’re serving as backdrops on video meetings.
Instead of sticking with neutral tones, we’re seeing more adventurous color choices in home office spaces, studies and dens. Think bold navy blues or saturated greens paired with custom paneling or textured backsplashes behind the desk. These backdrops aren’t just eye-catching; they’re designed for visual impact during Zooms, video shoots and presentations.
Storage in office cabinetry is tailored to the individual and his or her functional needs and uses. But the biggest shift is the emphasis on creating a backdrop that looks as polished as the work being done in the space!
Bathrooms: Simplifying with Style
In bathrooms, it’s all about ease of maintenance—and minimizing grout. While tile remains a staple of modern bathroom design, homeowners are opting for larger-format tiles or even slab panel systems that reduce seams and simplify cleaning.
Porcelain slabs, two-by-four-foot tiles, and new grout technologies (including mold-resistant options and even epoxy grout) make it possible to get the high-end, designer look of tile with less hassle. Once clients understand the advancements in grout, they’re often willing to stick with tile due to its design flexibility.
On the style front, we’re seeing an uptick in more artisanal and handmade looks. Terrazzo-inspired patterns and zellige tiles (a handmade clay tile style) are becoming more mainstream, giving bathrooms a warm, inviting vibe. Brass and gold finishes continue to be popular choices for faucets and cabinet hardware, adding a timeless layer of sophistication.
